Cusp Quartet is a trombone and guitar led jazz ensemble performing the complex and challenging compositions of Chris Bridges (trombone) and Keith Phillips (guitar).  With bassist Dave Tompkins  and drummer Hugh Lawrence  the interweaving musical themes are juxtaposed by solid rhythmic support, allowing opportunities for improvising in various combinations.  The music moves easily from sublime beauty to raw aggression, with occasional vocals by Chris Bridges, all displaying a wide range of influences such as Tom Waits and Polar Bear.

Brishti’r Gaan

Brishti’r Gaan is a celebration of Bengali folk songs which have been lovingly and respectfully transcribed, and then re-worked for a jazz quartet. The songs on this album have been taken from the recently published book of the same name, presenting lyrics and scores as well as brief introductions to the people who created this music. Just as jazz musicians of the past celebrated the ‘Great American Song Book’, we hope to do the same for the ancient and undiscovered music of the Bengali region.

Brishti’r Gaan is available on all platforms, with limited CDs from Bandcamp – https://cuspquartet.bandcamp.com/album/brishtir-gaan
